Fuel 4 Dancers is intended to be a clearinghouse and recipe exchange for busy dancers and those in charge of feeding them. If you have a child in dance like I do and find it a constant challenge to come up with quick, nutritious and delicious dance grub that provides the proper fuel to keep them performing at their best then I hope you will find this site useful…and that you will contribute your own comments and ideas.
From my perspective dance, like any art form, is also fueled by inspiration so you will also find things I have stumbled across that I found particularly interesting or that I just like. You may agree, you may not and that’s ok. Diversity is good.
A note about the way I cook. I am not a big fan of slavish adherence to recipes. The possible exception is baking where I try to pay at least minor homage to properties of baking soda and baking powder and their relationship to the production of non-hockey-puck-like substances. I use what I have in my kitchen and if I don’t like an ingredient I leave it out (I know, I know, blasphemy). I hope you’ll experiment and feel free to add things your kids like and take out the stuff they push off to the side of their plates.
Happy cooking and if you’ve got recipes to share by all means get in touch.
Disclaimer: I am not a registered dietician (RD) nor do I have any particular knowledge about nutrition. I’m a M.O.M. (maker of meals) and I follow the “eat whole foods and organic” approach with lots of brightly coloured fruits and vegetables. Where possible I have included links to other sources that contain nutritional information. I can’t guarantee it’s accurate or up to date so use your common sense and consult an expert if that is important for your dietary needs. Further…if you’ve got a kid with food allergies PLEASE make sure the ingredients are safe for your child.
